“Dear Mr. Parker and Carol, Words cannot express my gratitude to you. Because of your kindness, we were able to help over 400 students, three schools and the early college. May God bless you. Vancine Sturdivant”

Home Safety:

  • Keep your doors and windows locked on your home
  • Install an alarm system if you feel it is necessary
  • Keep all shrubbery trimmed around your home that may offer concealment

Driving Safety:

  • When you are driving, keep your doors locked, valuables out of sight, and park in safe areas that are well lighted.

Suspicious Activity or Crimes:

  • Report suspicious activity to police as soon as you observe it.
  • Report it by calling the Sheriff or Police Department or by calling 911. Always remain calm so you are able to speak clearly on the phone.
  • When you report a crime or suspicious activity, its really important to know as much as you can about the situation without putting yourself at risk to obtain information:
    • What is the activity?
    • What is the date and time?
    • Are there injured victims?
    • What does the suspect look like?
    • What do/does the car(s) look like?
    • Did you see the License plate?
    • In which direction did they leave?
    • Anything else that may be helpful.

Many parents have to leave children of age at home alone so they can work:

  • Teach your child not to open the door for anyone.
  • Teach your child to not tell people he/she is home alone.
  • Teach your child your home phone number and address.
  • Give your child the phone number of a trusted neighbor in case of an emergency.
  • Teach your child about fire safety and injury response. Teach them to use 911 if necessary.

Missing Child Prevention:

  • Do not allow your child to play alone in an area where he or she can not be seen by you or other responsible parties.
  • Establish meeting points in the event of separation at parades, concerts, etc.
  • Teach your child to use a phone to call for help if he or she is scared.
  • Specify certain persons to pick child up from school.
  • Keep updated physical, dental, and photographic records of your child.
